Our Story

The Big Pine Decks story started back in 2018, up north in Perham, Minnesota. My family has been traveling to this part of Minnesota ever since my grandpa was a little kid — every year we rent cabins on the lake and spend a week fishing, boating, golfing, and enjoying time together. I wanted to make one of those trips truly unforgettable, so I proposed to Kapri on the beach in front of both of our families. Fast forward to 2019: as we were creating our new company, we knew we wanted a name with deeper meaning. My mother-in-law, Julie, asked, “Well, what brought us all together in the first place?” The answer was immediate — Big Pine Lake, where I proposed to Kapri.

As you read through our story, you'll notice this whole thing really is about family. Our Foreman and Project Manager, Mitch and Andrew, are two of my favorite people — Andrew is one of my closest long-time friends, and Mitch is my cousin. People say it's risky to work with friends and family, but for us, it's exactly how we'd want it.

Ben Watson

Welcome! I'm Ben Watson, owner and operator of Big Pine Decks. I was born and raised in Bellevue, Nebraska, and graduated from Bellevue East High School before earning a master's degree in management and marketing from Bellevue University — all while working part-time in construction and coaching baseball at Bellevue East. Before starting Big Pine Decks, I spent several years working alongside my father-in-law in his construction business; together we decided to build something of our own, and Big Pine Decks was born.

In my off time, you'll find me with my wife, Kapri, and our two little guys, Whitten and Emmett. Fishing, hunting, and traveling are my passions outside of creating unique, custom outdoor living spaces for our clients across the Omaha metro. I'm blessed to do what I love with so many incredible people — and when you work with us, you become part of our family.

Project Manager

Andrew Moritz

I'm Andrew Moritz, Project Manager at Big Pine Decks. Born and raised in Bellevue, I moved to Lincoln to earn my bachelor's in business from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. After exploring several career paths, I found my true calling in the construction industry.

I take pride in managing multiple projects at once and building lasting relationships with our clients, which has made me a key part of the team. When I'm not overseeing projects, I enjoy spending time with my wife and three daughters — and sneaking away for a round of golf whenever I can.

Foreman

Mitch Schiefelbein

I'm Mitch Schiefelbein, a Foreman here at Big Pine Decks with two years in the decking industry. Growing up in a family-owned business, I developed a deep appreciation for quality craftsmanship and attention to detail.

As I continue to grow in the trade, I'm excited to keep building on my skills and contributing to the growth of BPD — and to every outdoor living space we create for families around the Omaha metro.
